A man spending too much time online is wishing a distant old junior high acquaintance happy birthday, hoping it brings joy to his day or something.
The strange man who needs to log off and the acquaintance have not spoken in 17 years and have not thought of each other in 14, but the notification that it was that one dude’s birthday was a sign to fulfill internet duties by writing a deeply personal “happy birthday!” on his wall and obligating him to like the post. The action was spurred by the thought of “oh I sorta remember him. Let me get in on this.”
The Hamster can report that roughly 60% of the birthday messages coming in are from people no longer in touch.
